Salvatore Minardi Receives the Adolf Beicker Award from Intercoiffure Mondial
Adolf Beicker — with the election of Adolf Beicker as president to the American section of Intercoiffure Mondial, a new era was begun. Mr. Beicker became the driving force behind what is now one of the most influential sections of the world organization. He set a standard of excellence and quality that became precedence for all succeeding American Intercoiffure presidents. Through his vision and determination, he was able to unify and energize an increasingly dissatisfied and unenthusiastic membership. In the first year of his presidential term, ICA grew from 55 to 75 members; and, in 1961, from 75 to 110 members.
The 60’s were an era filled with excitement and great change. Adolf Beicker’s awareness of this was instrumental in keeping ICA in the forefront of the industry. Adolf Beicker, through his leadership in ICA, instilled a sense of style and excitement never before seen in a hairdressing organization. His foresight, imagination and sense of fashion was firmly anchored by a keen business mind. In his personal life Mr. Beicker was an art, wine and food connoisseur — a true bon vivant. But, the interests of ICA and its members always remained at the top of his list of priorities.
“Intercoiffure is the keeper of our industry’s culture and history,” says Sheila Zaricor-Wilson, President of Intercoiffure America Canada. “We are the salon owners, we are the ones who know the greats, and we are the ones who have mentored others to follow our footsteps.”
The Order, like Intercoiffure itself, is full of history. Founded in 1972, members have been nominated every year to join the ranks, inviting legendary stylists like John Jay and Mario Tricoci to form the inner circle. The president of Intercoiffure America Canada chooses the nominees to be honored on a global level—and the criterion is quite simple, yet intangible—members must have served above and beyond what is expected of them when joining Intercoiffure.
A NIGHT IN PARIS
Every year, Intercoiffure hosts a global event to award the nominees to their new elevated status in the beautiful city of Paris, France. The ceremony itself is elegant—nominees and members are treated to a black-tie dinner and presentation, during which every country presents its theme and talent. This year, the pinning will be held on the river Seine, and the Haircutting Council, sponsored by Bumble & Bumble, will represent America Canada on the stage.
“It is emotional to witness the commitment to our communities, to our countries, and to our industry,” says Sheila, “We are elevating the industry—and the world—together.”
